Our Impact

RESEARCH & DATA
Through community outreach programs, the GVWC Sickle Cell Support & Research Initiative has helped many individuals living with sickle cell disease across to gain access to education, support resources, and connections to medical care. We collect data, identify gaps in care, and develop evidence-based strategies that improve health outcomes.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH EDUCATION
The GVWC Sickle Cell Support & Research Initiative helps individuals living with sickle cell disease across Texas by providing patient support services, health education, and connections to quality medical care. We assist families with crisis prevention resources, community outreach programs, and guidance that improves treatment adherence and daily disease management.
CRISIS KIT
The GVWC Sickle Cell Crisis Kit is designed to support individuals living with sickle cell disease during pain episodes and everyday disease management. Each kit may include hydration supplies, a thermometer, heating pad or comfort items, medication reminders, emergency guidance, and educational materials to help patients recognize warning signs early. By providing these practical resources, the kit helps families respond quickly to crises, reduce complications, and improve overall quality of life.

ADVOCACY SERVICES
The GVWC Sickle Cell Support & Research Initiative (GSSRI) provides advocacy services that elevate the voices of individuals living with sickle cell disease across Texas and ensure their needs are represented in healthcare decisions.
We use data and community insights to inform policy recommendations that improve access to care, reduce disparities, and strengthen support systems. Through collaboration with stakeholders and community engagement, we work to drive meaningful, lasting change in sickle cell care.
